“We do our best to experience, demonstrate, and proliferate ways in which we can all connect and feel alive together.”

–Kyla Barkin, Co-Founder / Artistic Director, Barkin/Selissen Project

Party Atmosphere

This 75 minute celebration event will include 30 minutes of live performance wrapped in a pre and post party. Audiences are invited to move about this Neo-gothic lounge, sip wine and indulge in the expansive views of the Hudson River.

Accidental Suite is a dance meditation on connection.

Born from raw experimentation and wrangled through structured improvisation, this site-specific performance installation builds relational tension through increasing levels of contact. Featuring 9 dancers and original score by Zac Selissen, Accidental Suite evokes chance encounters, near misses, and the magnetic push and pull of relationships from start to finish. In these deeply alienating times, Accidental Suite taps into the most essential of human needs, relating to one another.

Dance film, selected by you

Accidental Suite originated as one of 5 dance films presented for Barkin/Selissen Project’s “Titles Project”, an online initiative designed to increase access and advocacy for dance and dance filmmaking. All 5 films were conceptualized, choreographed, directed, and partially shot and edited by Barkin and Selissen. Audiences became stakeholders by voting on the piece they wished to see expanded for a live event. In June 2019, the audience officially selected Accidental Suite.

Global in scope

The Titles Project reached over 2,000 people worldwide, including Canada, Mexico, South America, the U.K., Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Southeast Asia, and across the entire United States.

“Some groups give strong performances, others offer intriguing choreography, astute musical choices or a deep emotional connection. Barkin/Selissen, however, has the lot.”

–Kelly Apter, The Scotsman
